To understand Forex hedgefunds first you have to understand the two types of markets involved. Forex is the foreign exchange market, which sees one nation's currency exchanged for another. This is the largest market in the world as it includes trading currencies between banks, corporations, governments and many other institutions.

Where do Forex hedgefunds enter the equation? Forex hedgefunds are private investment funds that are offered to only a selected membership of investors who must meet qualification standards. Forex hedgefunds in the United States require that all investors be accredited, meaning they are corporations or independently wealthy investors who have a net worth of a least one million dollars.

However, hedgefunds' exclusive standards protect this market from being over legalized. The market is so exclusive to accredited investors that Forex hedgefunds cannot advertise to non-professionals, or the independently wealthy. Forex hedge funds also control what information about returns is released, as this could be seen as a marketing method or a way of releasing more sensitive company information that would compromise business security.

Nevertheless, hedgefunds offer many advantages, many of which pundits credit for giving back control to the independent shareholder over corporate management. Worldwide, hedgefunds are a market within a market worth far too much to be ignored.
